Nowadays, thanks to various types of processing, expanded metal offers incredible possibilities of use in designing modern exteriors and interiors.
It is indeed a multifunctional material. And our participation in the project implementation of a parking house in the REDING TOWER 2 complex is a clear proof of this fact.
The nine-storey administrative complex REDING TOWER 2 in Bratislava Rača, thanks to its architectural-urban solution, won an important CE. ZA. AR award in a category of Civil and Industrial Buildings.
The authors of the project Ing. Arch. Peter Vitka and Ing. Arch. Kornel Kobák, however, emphasize in particular the perfect functional, operational and technical parameters of the construction itself. They already played an important role in the initial sketches. The complex meets the strictest technical parameters required in the construction of administrative premises in Slovakia.
When designing, the essential thing was to take into account an already existing Reding Tower. At the same time, they considered it extremely important to involve the natural characteristics of the site in the overall spatial solution of the new housing development.
Our task, in case of REDING TOWER 2, was to deliver the material to the four-storey parking house. It is separated from the administration building because of dilatation. The request from the contracting authority was clear. The parking house, despite the dilatation gap, must be an integral part of the building. It must not interfere with the overall visual effect, but should make the complex look as a unitary whole.
A team of our experts decided that the most suitable material for this façade would be the aluminium expanded metal with the diamond mesh MR 90 x 35 x 13 x 2 mm. We recommended the client to combine it with the aluminium expanded metal with the hexagonal mesh ME 47 x 18 x 8 x 2 mm. As the administrative part of the complex is mainly made of glass panes, this was a clear choice. It is this combination that can create an interesting, eye-catching, but naturally looking contrast.
The expanded metal was indeed an excellent choice. It perfectly completed the layout of the building. In addition, it gives the whole complex a kind of airiness. The other great benefits of expanded metal are that it is durable and maintenance-free.
We think that minimalism, a good location, unique natural background of the Little Carpathians and the balance between technical and aesthetic parameters make this building an attractive architectural work.
